Tanzania holds the northern safari circuit — Serengeti, Ngorongoro crater, Tarangire — along with Kilimanjaro and the island of Zanzibar off the coast. Most itineraries combine several days of parks with beach time on the island.

Kilimanjaro climbs take five to nine days and succeed or fail largely on how much altitude acclimatisation the route allows. Park fees here are among the highest in the region.
