Moldova is a small, low-key country whose main attractions sit close to Chisinau: the cave monastery at Orheiul Vechi, the wine cellars at Cricova and Milestii Mici with kilometres of underground galleries, and the fortress at Soroca to the north. It receives far fewer visitors than its neighbours, which is part of the appeal.
