Kyrgyzstan is mountainous almost everywhere, and the appeal is alpine rather than urban: Lake Issyk-Kul below the Tian Shan, high pastures with summer yurt camps, and trekking routes around Karakol and Song-Kul. Bishkek is the base and the transport hub rather than a destination in itself.
The guides here cover Kyrgyzstan as a whole. The mountain season is short — roughly June to September, when high passes are open and yurt camps operate; outside it much of the country is snowbound. Visa-free entry applies to many nationalities, which makes it one of the more accessible countries in the region, though roads over the passes remain slow and weather-dependent.
