Jordan is compact and the main sights line up along a single north-south axis: Jerash's Roman ruins, Amman, the Dead Sea, Petra carved into sandstone, and Wadi Rum's desert beyond it, ending at Aqaba on the Red Sea. The whole route can be driven in a few hours between stops.

Petra takes at least a full day and involves substantial walking on uneven ground. The Jordan Pass, bought before arrival, combines site entry with the visa fee and is worth comparing against separate tickets.
