Brunei is a small sultanate on the north coast of Borneo, surrounded by Malaysian territory. Bandar Seri Begawan holds the two landmark mosques and Kampong Ayer, a water village of stilted houses that has stood on the river for centuries; rainforest reserves lie inland.
The guides here cover Brunei as a whole. The climate is equatorial with rain possible year-round and no strong seasonal pattern. Alcohol is not sold, though limited personal import is permitted for non-Muslims. Most visits are short and often combined with Sabah or Sarawak next door, since the country is small and distances within it are minimal.
