Nepal is where most Himalayan trekking begins. Kathmandu valley holds the medieval squares of Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur, Pokhara is the staging point for the Annapurna routes, and the Everest region is reached by flight to Lukla and then on foot.
The guides on this page cover Nepal as a whole. Trekking seasons are firm: October and November are clearest, March to May is the second window, and the monsoon from June to September closes most high routes. Permits are required for trekking areas and checked en route. Altitude is the principal risk on any high trek, and itineraries that build in acclimatisation days exist for good reason.
