Indonesia spans thousands of islands, and most trips settle on one or two. Bali carries the bulk of international visitors with its temples, rice terraces and surf coast; Java holds Jakarta, Yogyakarta and the temple complexes of Borobudur and Prambanan; and the eastern islands are progressively more remote.
