Egypt concentrates its best-known sites along the Nile: the pyramids at Giza outside Cairo, the temples of Luxor and Karnak, Abu Simbel in the far south, and the Red Sea resorts at Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh operating separately from the archaeological route.

Nile cruises between Luxor and Aswan are the standard way to link the southern temples. Sites open early and close in the afternoon, and starting at opening time avoids both the heat and the tour buses.
