Bhutan sits in the eastern Himalaya and manages tourism deliberately: independent budget travel is not really possible, and visits are arranged through licensed operators with a daily sustainable development fee. The Tiger's Nest monastery above Paro is the best-known sight, reached by a steep two-hour climb.
