Nicaragua has the colonial cities of Granada and Leon, a chain of active volcanoes, and Ometepe island formed by two of them rising out of Lake Nicaragua. The Pacific coast around San Juan del Sur draws surfers, and the Caribbean side is culturally distinct.
The guides on this page cover Nicaragua as a whole. The dry season runs November to April. Volcano boarding at Cerro Negro and hikes on Ometepe are the usual active draws. The country has experienced political unrest and restrictions since 2018, with periodic effects on entry, protests and press freedom, so current official advisories are the right source before planning a trip.
